TL;DR: The Tech Tribe and MSP Marketing Edge both help MSPs grow, but solve different problems: broad community and coaching versus an exclusive, done for you marketing system.

  • Who it's for: MSPs who want broad business community and coaching (The Tech Tribe) versus MSPs who want an exclusive marketing system with direct support (MSP Marketing Edge)
  • Why it matters: The Tech Tribe is open to unlimited members and costs $59 to $79 a month. MSP Marketing Edge locks out local competitors but costs more, from $199 a month
  • Where they overlap: Both offer monthly marketing content and templates, and both have genuinely supportive communities
  • Where they differ: The Tech Tribe bundles in a free marketing automation platform (Growably) and peer coaching at low cost. MSP Marketing Edge offers geographic exclusivity and a structured marketing system with 1:1 support from a dedicated team
  • Bottom line: More than 100 MSPs are already members of both, because they solve different problems rather than competing head to head

What is The Tech Tribe today?

The Tech Tribe was started by former MSP owner Nigel Moore, who built and sold his own Sydney based MSP before turning to full time coaching. He is based in Australia and is known across the industry as the Tribal Leader.

Since launch, The Tech Tribe has restructured into three membership tiers:

  • Essentials ($59 a month): access to 1,000+ templates, resources and training workshops covering everything from legal agreements to cybersecurity policies
  • Growth ($79 a month, their most popular tier): everything in Essentials, plus Growably included at no extra cost, a CRM and marketing automation platform built specifically for MSPs, covering pipeline management, sales funnels, a website builder, email and SMS marketing, and workflow automation
  • Rainmakers (application only): an invite only, cohort based accelerator with intimate peer groups, expert coaching and an accountability program, for MSPs who want to grow fast and are willing to apply and be vetted

What has not changed is the community itself. Thousands of MSPs discuss every part of running a tech business inside the forum, helped along by Tribal Elders who volunteer their time to answer questions. The Tech Tribe has also added free local meetups in several regions, sponsored by vendors so there is no cost to attend, whether or not you are a paying member.

All plans come with a 30 day money back guarantee, branded as the Tribal Taco Guarantee, and there is no contract at any tier.

What does MSP Marketing Edge offer today?

MSP Marketing Edge was founded in 2016 by Paul Green, and takes a deliberately different approach: one service, one price, and strict exclusivity so no two competing MSPs in the same area can be members. It is built as a complete marketing system rather than a stream of standalone content, structured around a 3 step lead generation system that members work through. That system includes:

  • Every day: fresh social media content
Every week: a syndicated blog article, and a presenter led video (with US, UK and Australian versions)
  • Every month: an educational guide, promotional emails, and a printed newsletter
  • Evergreen tools: website widgets like a password checker and pricing calculator, over 100 technology and security videos, lead generation and upsell campaigns, and sales templates
  • Direct support: a named expert for 1:1 Zoom calls, an active Facebook group, a knowledge base and direct access to the founder Paul Green
  • Business growth training: a structured growth programme and bitesize courses that go beyond marketing into running the business itself

MSP Marketing Edge does not include a CRM or marketing automation platform. It is a marketing system, not a software platform: the content, tools and structured 1:1 support are designed to work together as one system rather than being assembled by the member.

The differences that should drive the decision

Focus and breadth

The Tech Tribe covers the whole business: pricing, hiring, technical questions and mindset, as well as marketing. MSP Marketing Edge is narrower by design, covering marketing and business growth but steering clear of the technical and operational questions The Tech Tribe's forum handles well.

Implementation

The Tech Tribe's model is largely self-serve: templates, training, and on the Growth tier, a free automation platform, but it is on the member to put the pieces together, unless accepted onto Rainmakers. MSP Marketing Edge is built to make DIY easy, with content ready to publish and direct support to walk members through using it.

Coaching and peer support

The Tech Tribe's strength is scale and community, so there is almost always someone who has already solved a given problem. MSP Marketing Edge's strength is depth over breadth, a smaller and more personal relationship with an experienced team who know MSP marketing inside out.

Website, SEO and automation

This is where the two services have diverged most since 2022. The Tech Tribe now bundles Growably free into its Growth and Rainmakers tiers, giving members a CRM, sales funnels, email and SMS marketing and a website builder in one platform. MSP Marketing Edge does not attempt to replace the marketing stack, instead supplying content designed to be dropped into whatever website and tools a member already uses.

Exclusivity and content licensing

The Tech Tribe is open to any MSP who wants to join, with no limit on members in one town or country. MSP Marketing Edge only ever sells to one MSP per area. If a competitor in that area is already a member, a new MSP cannot join, and once one is in, the competitor cannot either.

How much do the services cost?

The Tech Tribe: Essentials is $59 a month, Growth (with Growably included) is $79 a month, and Rainmakers is by application with pricing set per cohort. Annual billing brings a discount on both published tiers, and there is a low cost trial period to test the platform before committing.

MSP Marketing Edge: a single fixed price, $199 a month for members outside the UK, or £149 + VAT for UK members. There is a free trial period, no contract, and cancellation any time.

Put simply, The Tech Tribe costs roughly a quarter to a third of MSP Marketing Edge, but MSP Marketing Edge is selling something The Tech Tribe structurally cannot: a guarantee that local competitors are locked out.

What MSPs say

The Tech Tribe does not rely heavily on public review platforms like Google or Trustpilot. Its reputation travels through testimonials on its own site and word of mouth in the wider MSP community.

MSP Marketing Edge's reputation is more visible on public review sites. At the time of writing, the business has 83 Google reviews with a 5 star average, alongside further reviews on the BetterTracker directory.

Worth noting: MSP Marketing Edge's own reviews page cites The Tech Tribe as one of the places its members leave feedback, a small sign of how intertwined the two communities already are.

Which provider is best for which MSP?

If your MSP primarily wants... Likely starting point
Low cost, broad peer support and business coaching The Tech Tribe, Essentials
A free built-in CRM and marketing automation platform The Tech Tribe, Growth
Intensive, cohort based coaching to scale quickly The Tech Tribe, Rainmakers (by application)
Guaranteed marketing exclusivity in their local area MSP Marketing Edge
A structured, done for you marketing system plus named 1:1 support MSP Marketing Edge
Both broad community support and an exclusive marketing system Join both, as 100+ MSPs already do

Can an MSP use both?

Yes, and plenty already do. The Tech Tribe gives a large, active community and, on the Growth tier, a free marketing platform to build on. MSP Marketing Edge gives an exclusive, done for you marketing system and a support team who know MSP marketing inside and out. MSPs who join both typically use The Tech Tribe for the wider business questions and peer support, and MSP Marketing Edge for the marketing system they do not want a local competitor to also have access to.

Which option should your MSP choose?

If budget is tight and the priority is a strong community plus the tools to build a marketing engine, The Tech Tribe is the starting point. If marketing needs to be handled through a complete system, with the guarantee that no one else in the area can use it, MSP Marketing Edge is the better fit. If budget allows for both, the two together cover more ground than either does alone.
