MSPs: Don’t have this regret at the end

Sorry to take the mood down a notch here. But there's a book I read many years ago which has always stayed in my head.

The Top Five Regrets of the Dying by Bronnie Ware explores the common regrets that people have at the end of their lives.

The author spent several years caring for dying people in their homes. And you know the one which resonated most for me? This one....

I wish I hadn’t worked so hard

To quote from Bronnie Ware's blog...

"This came from every male patient that I nursed. They missed their children’s youth and their partner’s companionship. Women also spoke of this regret. But as most were from an older generation, many of the female patients had not been breadwinners. All of the men I nursed deeply regretted spending so much of their lives on the treadmill of a work existence."

Regardless of how old you are right now, as a busy MSP owner, does this resonate with you too?

If you have children, are you surprised at how quickly they're growing up?

I have one child, Samm, who has just turned 15. And while I love the independence that she's developing, I also miss the cute 8-year-old version of her.

Bring on the grandkids! Although not for at least 15 years please... 🤣

This is the happy balance that I believe every MSP owner should be working towards:

• Enough cash to do the things you want to do
• Enough time to do the things you want to do
• Quality time with your family & friends
• FUN. Lots of that
• Meaningful work (i.e. not password resets)

Ask yourself this: Are you working too hard? Have you worked too many hours this week? (again???)

If so, why? What are you doing that you don't need to do anymore? What tasks are you doing that someone else could do for you? Who on your team could you pass those tasks on to? Or where could you get extra outsourced help

What are the things you need from your business and your life to help you achieve this happy balance?
