Some interesting Google search experiments to be aware of

Google's trying out a load of new features right now. Some of them could one day be useful to MSPs trying to improve their search results

Google is doing some interesting search experiments right now. They add some potential opportunities for MSPs in the future if they stick.

In no particular order:

  • Personalised ranking: People will see more results from sites they visit often

  • Follow button: If you regularly Google a subject, you can press a button and follow it

  • Notes: People can leave useful notes on search results. This is Google's way of adding a human perspective to search, based on the fact people are searching Reddit for answers

  • Perspectives: This is being expanded to add social media, discussion forums, blog posts and other communities into search results

So what does all of this mean for MSPs?

Not much today. But Google is experimenting at a new pace as its core search product comes under pressure from more competitors, AI and user-generated sites like Reddit.

I could imagine MSPs using some of these features to their benefit, such as adding notes on searches for technology problems. Perspectives justifies overall content creation as an SEO strategy.

They say competition drives innovation and we're seeing it happen on Google right now. Exciting!
