Networking meetings can be a great place to meet new leads and quickly advance your relationship. There are right and wrong ways to do it...

I once went to a networking meeting where a guy was dressed like this in order to "stand out". A gold sparkly jacket.

I'm not kidding.

No-one took him seriously. He looked like an out of work magician 🤣

You know the best way to to stand out at a networking meeting?

Be INTERESTED. Not INTERESTING.

i.e.... don't try to stand out.

Instead, work the room, and make every person feel like they are the most important person there.

  • Give them your full attention. No distractions. Poker face if they're boring
  • Ask open questions about their business. If they ask about yours, give a one line answer and ask them another question. The less you talk about you, the more fascinating you will be
  • After 10 mins or so, suggest you swap business cards and go meet other people "or we'll be chatting all day as you're so fascinating"
  • Make sure your business card has your recent photo on it. That's all they'll remember about you, your face. They'll remember how you made them feel. And they'll keep your card
